Iceland's grandest glacial lagoon.
On the edge of Vatnajökull — Europe's largest glacier — Jökulsárlón is Iceland's largest and deepest glacial lake. Huge icebergs break off the glacier and drift slowly across the lagoon before floating out to sea. Just across the road, Diamond Beach scatters pieces of ice over black sand that shine like diamonds in the light.
It's about 380 km from Reykjavík, so it's a long but unforgettable day. With me it's just your group, with stops at the south coast's best sights along the way — and a lunch box so you never go hungry.
Stop by stop.
Hotel pick-up
An early start for the long drive; Kate's lunch box and hot drinks are waiting in the car.
Seljalandsfoss
A unique waterfall you can walk all the way behind.
Skógafoss
A massive 60-metre wall of water, thundering and full of rainbows.
Vík í Mýrdal
A charming coastal village beneath the cliffs — a good place to pause for supplies.
Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
Huge icebergs drift across the deep lagoon toward the sea — Iceland at its most surreal.
Diamond Beach
Ice washed up on black sand, sparkling in the light. (Ice on the beach is weather-dependent and not guaranteed.)
About 380 km each way — a long, scenic drive.

What to bring.
Layers
Iceland's weather changes hourly. A warm mid-layer and a windproof jacket cover almost any day.
Sturdy shoes
Paths can be wet or icy. Waterproof walking shoes or boots are ideal.
A camera
Phone or camera — and I'll happily take the couple shots you never get on a bus.
Swimwear (optional)
If you fancy a hot-spring stop on the way back, bring a swimsuit and towel.

Hot chocolate by the icebergs.
At the lagoon I love pouring hot chocolate from Kate's thermos while the icebergs drift past — a warm pause in one of the most surreal places in Iceland.

What guests say about this tour.
Syl found us a waterfall with not one other person there. Best day of our whole Iceland trip — and we never felt rushed.
Honest about the weather, flexible with the plan, and Kate's snacks were unreal. Booked him twice in one week.
Sehr persönlich und entspannt. Syl kennt Orte, die in keinem Reiseführer stehen. Absolute Empfehlung!
